lotus flowers (the dark days in the life of an artist and learning from the lotus)

lotus flowers (the dark days in the life of an artist and learning from the lotus) Life of an Artist
by Tracey Capone

There are days, in the life of an artist, where frustration leads to questioning every decision. If we can embrace the struggle, and learn from the lotus flower, who blooms more beautifully from the deepest and darkest places, we can make that struggle worth something.

Anyone else tired of Winter and just decided to move ahead to Spring in your imagination? šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Second final project from the upcoming ā€œBirds and Bird Houses in Affinity Designerā€ I’m going to be showing you how to create wonderfully textured trees and branches as the second setting. Stay tuned!
One of the two final projects from my upcoming class, ā€œBirds and Bird Houses in Affinity Designer.ā€ The first in a series of bird classes. This one will feature two birds, two settings, and a lotttttt of my favorite textures. This illustration was created with brushes and assets I created especially for the class (and will be providing as a download) as well as texture image files that we will access from right inside the app! See you in class!
A little behind the scenes. Admittedly, I am a perfectionist, which is silly because perfection is an unattainable goal but I do want my classes to be as useful, and enjoyable, as possible. To that end, I switched up my entire recording process, including what I edit with and it’s been a learning experience. (Don’t worry! My teaching style isn’t changing, just the technical behind the scenes stuff) Soooo I’m still working on my ā€œBirds & Birdhouses in Affinity Designerā€ class for Skillshare but it looks like it will be finished this week! Getting started on a day of recording, complete with a look at the Pen Tool where I will go over tips and tricks to make it your friend rather than for when it comes to creating your work! Looking forward to sharing this class! (After what already feels like a year and a half of recording 🧔)
Tonight the Lunar New Year ends and will be commemorated with the Lantern Festival. San Francisco’s Chinatown is one of the most colorful locations to shoot and, to date, this is one of my all time favorite shots so I thought what better day to post it than this one! To the Year of the Ox!
Have you met Tilde? She can help you make some pretty cool geometric designs in Adobe Illustrator. Add the Shift and/or Alt keys, change directions, try different shapes... mix it up!
Brand new (super quick) tutorial up on my YouTube channel. Learn how to quickly generate a color palette in Adobe Illustrator for Desktop and save it to your Creative Cloud library for use in all of your Adobe apps. Find the link in my bio!
Putting together a series of short Illustrator tutorials about all things masking to create this final illustration. To be continued... šŸ’•
A day of recording under the belt. My Birds & Bird Houses in Affinity Designer class is taking forever and a day to record but I promise it will be worth it. (Sleeping cat not included) 🐦 Happy Weekend everyone!
Rarrrrrr.... ok you have to picture the MGM lion from back in the day (for those who are old enough to have existed in ā€œback in the dayā€ of course)
Random Stuff You Find When You Clean One of Your Camera Drawers But Don’t Remember Buying #1 (a sign that you may have a problem šŸ¤”). Macro lens set for your iPhone which is remarkably not bad for a cheapie ā€œlensā€. Now to go bug the cats... šŸ“ø
Expecting more snow this weekend, on top of the 2,000 inches we already have on the ground. So I’m just going to continue creating my own Spring. Created in #AffinityDesigner for iPad.
Counting the days until 1. The 50,000 inches of snow sitting on the ground here are gone and 2. It gets above ten degrees. In the meantime, I created a quick Spring illustration using the methods I teach in my Skillshare class, ā€œTextured Florals in Affinity Designer for iPadā€ Link is in my bio.
