Wrapping up the second project for my latest class, “Animated Textures in Procreate.” You’ll learn the ins and outs, ups and downs, of animating textures using Procreate’s animation feature. Head to the link in my profile and follow my @skillshare channel to know when the class is live in 3…2…1. I grew up in Pennsylvania (PA for those of us from there ;)) where bears are just a normal part of the landscape. They're crafty, they're big and they're always hungry but they're also super fun to watch (though my mom would probably disagree when they're stealing her bird feeders) I made this one for her. Illustrated in Procreate using my Texture Love brush set and texture image files I've created.
Did you know you can make multiple flower shapes, using the Cog Tool in Affinity Designer? Some shapes have handy sliders that allow you to make adjustments to the overall shape, before you convert them to curves. Use the sliders on the Cog tool to make as many, or as few, petals as you’d like and make them wider or thinner. Duplicate your shapes to add depth to your flowers.
Did you know texture likes to hide? True story. Take this piece of newsprint I scanned in at a high resolution. There are tons of textures within the paper that can’t be seen by the naked eye but can be pulled out with a simple Levels Adjustment! I’m using Affinity Photo in this example, but you can use any app that has a Levels Adjustment (like Photoshop, Designer and more!)
One of my favorite parts about sitting on our front porch… our hummingbirds. They are here like clockwork every year, and I miss them when they leave :)
Create a texture, cluster floral brush on the fly in #adobefresco using the Multi Selector in the Eyedropper Tool. I use this to create bunches of hydrangea, lilac and other clustered flowers! By changing some brush settings (which are all reversible) you can get some really beautiful effects!
Modern Folk Art Florals were the first illustrations I created when I started using #AffinityDesigner, and find them to be a fun way to destress. Best part? I did these all on the vector side of the app, no pixel sketch needed.
A beautiful Red-Winged Blackbird landed on our feeding station while we were having coffee this morning. It's not often they'll pop over, as they prefer marshy areas, but when they do, it's always a treat to see, and hear, them. (🖼 by me, using Affinity Designer for iPad)
Goodbye little wren. Enjoy your new home. ❤️ 🪺
Paper Cutout Hearts on Affinity Designer for iPad… super simple using Power Duplicate and the FX Studio. Play around with the Inner Shadow FX until it looks just the way you want. Add a paper texture to the top to finish everything off. (You can also add it to each layer and adjust directions/blend modes for even more depth) Join me in my full length @skillshare classes on Affinity Designer for iPad, one of the most popular vector apps; find the link in my bio under “Explore Latest Post.” New members get the first month at no cost to explore unlimited classes from me and thousands of other amazing teachers! See you in class!

I know everyone is in to their Paris doors, and believe me, I have spent my fair share of time photographing them, but... can we talk about the doors of Venice please? (📸s by me, Venice, Italy, 2016)
