NEW BLOG POST! Creating slices in Affinity Designer makes exporting individual elements, like stickers, motifs for seamless patterns, shape sources for brushes and more SUPER easy! In the latest installment of Affinity Designer | Tool Tips, we'll take a closer look at how to create and export slices and I'll share several of my own tips that have made it easier for me to use. Not to sound all dramatic or anything but... I'm pretty sure it's as hot as the surface of the sun out there today. So, I'm enjoying pictures of flowers from inside the air conditioned house. Very grateful to whomever invented it and the fact that we are lucky enough to have it. Hope you are all staying cool and creative, wherever you are located! (📸 of dahlia flower by me)
"This class was perfectly paced for me. I am very comfortable with tech and the basics of design tools, but new to AD. Tracey was spot on as she guided through the examples - she doesn’t go off on tangents or assume that you need very basic instruction over and over. She introduces new concepts in small bits and then reinforces them with repeated use and alternative examples. She offers shortcuts and tips I haven’t found elsewhere. She explains why and when to use one option vs another. Most enjoyably, you end up learning AD but the focus is on making the project (as opposed to going through each button in AD in isolation without immediate application). And, the icing on the cake? Tracey responds to comments, projects, and questions." - Susan K.

Hello pretty yellow prairie flowers... hello creamy, dreamy bokeh. I see you there. (📸by me)
We've intentionally been letting our backyard go shaggy to allow the clover and the buttercups and other assorted goodies to come up to give the pollinators something to buzz around. Looking forward to more of our native perennials opening up so they have even more to work with. Our front garden almost buzzes there is so much activity. The pollinators do so much for us, we need to return the favor as much as we can. 🐝❤️🌻
It's been so long since I was out, and about, with my camera that sometimes I forget I'm a photographer. I can't remember the last time I photographed my favorite city but I know it's been a while, based on my photographs. Chicago is an ever changing city. Blink and there is a new piece of amazing architecture. Turn around and a CTA bridge has been replaced by a new, modern sculptural platform. I do love having a record of all the changes through the 20 years I have lived here.
The flowers in our garden are starting to bloom, with the peonies and Columbine winning the race for first show. I love this time of year, sitting outside, on the porch, watching Nature come back to life after a long Midwest winter. What sorts of flowers are popping up where you are? Have a favorite?
“She’ll grow in to her ears,” they said… “she’s still a kitten,” they said… three years later… Oh Lu… you and your adorable satellite dishes. #foreverkitten #earsbiggerthanherhead #shecanheareverything
Two years ago, this month, I started teaching on @skillshare when art festivals were canceled due to COVID. As it turned out, that pivot was one of the best decisions I made; I decided to retire from festivals and focus on teaching. Today, one of my biggest goals was met; I got invited to be a part of the Top Teacher program and very happily accepted. Meeting this goal is thanks in GREAT part to you, my students; those of you who have taken my classes, shared your projects and/or left reviews. Your encouragement, and kind words, helped inspire me to push harder and improve with each class. I want to thank each and every one of you who have followed along on this amazing journey with me. THANK YOU, to all of you, from the bottom of my heart! More to come everyone...I am not one to hit a goal and call it a day so be on the lookout for lots more from my Skillshare channel (find the link in my bio) Back to crafting those classes!
