Author: Tracey Capone

I am a self taught photographer, from Chicago, who specializes in urban photography along with nature and travel. I live in Rogers Park, a vibrant, culturally diverse neighborhood on the north side of the city, where I share a studio with my painter husband, Joe Smigielski and our two wacky cats. I sell my work online as well as at various art festivals and shows and my own retail space in the city.

Two years ago, this month, I started teaching on @skillshare when art festivals were canceled due to COVID. As it turned out, that pivot was one of the best decisions I made; I decided to retire from festivals and focus on teaching. Today, one of my biggest goals was met; I got invited to be a part of the Top Teacher program and very happily accepted. Meeting this goal is thanks in GREAT part to you, my students; those of you who have taken my classes, shared your projects and/or left reviews. Your encouragement, and kind words, helped inspire me to push harder and improve with each class. I want to thank each and every one of you who have followed along on this amazing journey with me. THANK YOU, to all of you, from the bottom of my heart! More to come everyone...I am not one to hit a goal and call it a day so be on the lookout for lots more from my Skillshare channel (find the link in my bio) Back to crafting those classes!
NEW BLOG TUTORIAL! Did you know you can blend text in Adobe Illustrator for iPad? It's not quite as straightforward as doing it in the desktop version but it can be done! In my latest blog tutorial, I'll show you, step by step, how to do it. Head to the link in my bio (under Explore Latest Post), or to the link in my Stories, and learn how.
Ohhhhhhh this was one amazing find. This doesn’t even cover the two full trays of smaller letters. The treasures that can be found, and cherished. #vintagefinds #treasurefind #letterpresslove #ilovewords #letterlove #vintagelove #ilovevintage #artlove #vintageartsupplies
This cat started out as a vase and, using #adobefresco's new Liquify tool (yay!), I turned it in to a cat once I realized I liked the "calico texture" I added :) True story. 🏺🐈 Happy Weekend All!
When I need to give my brain a rest, I pick a limited color palette to work with and just play around with colors and shapes. Sometimes it's nice not to worry about the finer details like highlights and shadows and such. Digital floral collage created in Adobe Fresco using a mix of my own textures from various packs and built in brushes.
Scenes from a walk (sound up on the last one!) One of the best things about where we are living now… tons of walking/bike trails and nature in numerous grassland/woods/wetlands around us.
Having fun using Fresco as a digital scissors and glue! Mixed Media floral collage in #adobefresco. The flower is my own photo which I vectorized in Illustrator for iPad. I have also pulled in analog marks I made with inks and paint and scanned along with a ton of vintage ephemera from my analog collection. Happy Weekend!
Happy #nationalspaceday! When I was a kid, I LOVED to draw space scenes more than anything else. That hasn't changed a bit... They are still one of my go to's. This one was created in #adobefresco and animated in #aftereffects.
Work in progress… digital floral mixed media collage in Adobe Fresco. Stay tuned…
While dogwoods are my favorite flowering tree to photograph, cherry blossoms come in a very close second. We had a cherry tree in our back yard growing up, and as it was outside my bedroom window I got to enjoy the beautiful, white blossoms whenever Spring rolled around. What is your favorite flowering tree, whether it's to photograph, draw or just enjoy?
Current POV: listening to a pretty nasty storm rolling in… hanging out in #adobefresco working on pattern motifs for a @luluandsadiedesigns collection, in my current favorite palette. #mysaturdaynight
Scanning, scanning, some scanning and have I mentioned scanning? New creations afoot.
